ASBF Annual Update

ABSF developed the Australian Beef Sustainability Report to future-proof our industry and ensure we are moving forward together with our customers to ‘meat’ their expectations.

The ASBF Report supports priorities in the MISP2020 for improving transparency, aligning practices with community expectations and building trust in the red meat sector.

The 2018 annual update shows how in just one year we’ve already made huge strides towards improved transparency in beef production, from paddock to plate

Animal welfare

96% compliance with accredited animal welfare requirements. 0.1% mortality incidents in 2017 for journeys of live cattle.

Environmental stewards

Since 1990 water use has reduced by 65% and since 2003  there has been a 57% reduction in waste, when producing beef. We’re also working hard to gain carbon neutral beef production by 2030.

Beef and the community

60% of consumers nationally consider Australian beef safe and tasty, and 47% view it as consistently high quality.
